About IB
Founded in 1968, the International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation offering four highly respected programs of international education that develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. Schools must be authorized, by the IB organization, to offer any of the programs.
The IB has a hard-earned reputation for high standards of teaching, pedagogical leadership and student achievement. IB works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. Our History |
The possibility of application for candidacy as an International Baccalaureate World School was first suggested and recommended by the schools governing body, the Weber High Community Council. Upon the recommendation of The Community Council, the proposal to apply was presented first to the Leadership Team of Weber High School for input. Following that presentation, it was presented to the faculty and staff. When support for the IB Program was apparent, representatives from the school – including the Head Principal and potential Program Coordinator – attended IB Category 1 training at Rice University in March 2015.
Upon completion of Category 1 training, presentations were made to multiple community groups, including: Weber High PTA members, school leadership teams of the three feeder junior high schools, community leadership teams consisting of local mayors and city council members. With the support of these groups, a formal presentation was made to the Weber School District Board, Superintendent, and District Office personnel by the Head Principal, Velden Wardle. Following this presentation, Weber High School was granted approval by the Weber School District Board and Weber High Community Council to proceed with the process to become an International Baccalaureate World School in June 2015. Weber High succussfully completed the Application for Candidacy in the spring of 2016 and completed the Application for Authorization in the spring of 2017. Weber High recently completed the IB Verification Visit in November of 2017 and we are currently awaiting approval from the IB Office in Bethesda, Maryland. Upon approval we will start registering students for IB Courses for the fall of 2018. The class of 2020 will be the first class with the opportunity to earn an IB Diploma at Weber High School. |
